The Nursery is Finished!

I know I promised this weekend, but since today is a holiday, I figured the Monday of a 3-day weekend was close enough.

We spent a lot of time making a room for our little girl. We handmade a lot of the stuff that we put in, which I love. It makes it feel unique and special and hopefully, she will see how much we anticipated her arrival when she is older.

Here it is! I feel like it is such a bright and happy room for a bright and happy girl.

I made all the bedding myself using fabric I bought online.

The mobile I made using one I found on Etsy as inspiration. Hopefully E will love staring up at the birds as they twist and turn.

We took an old beat up dresser and made it new again. James stripped off the old hardware, replaced the bottom piece of wood and sanded it down. I took it from there and covered it in a coat of white paint and added ceramic knobs we found at Anthropologie. I made the changing pad out of some fabric scraps left over from the bedding. The art work above the dresser is framed fabric, also bought online. The frames were ugly cheap frames I found at Goodwill and yard sales spray painted white.

Shelves to show off some artwork. Some came from Etsy and some was made myself.

James made this hanging bookshelf for E's ever growing collection. Also stashed in there are the fabric books I made for her.

We decided to use a galvanized tub to corral all of E's toys and animals. I like that it ties in with some of the other metal elements in the room.

You can see the detail in the baby quilt that Aunt Penny made. I know that E will love her blanket as much as I do.

Anyone who is visiting my blog from Chic & Cheap Nursery, I am planning on posting some tutorials in the next couple of weeks for my bird mobile, cornice box, and hanging bookshelf. You can become a follower to my blog so you don't miss it!

If there is something else you want to see how I DIYed, leave a comment and I'll do my best to show you how to make your own too. (I need something to keep me busy while I hurry up and wait for this baby!)

  2. What a gorgeous nursery! I came over to your blog via Rate my space. I was wondering if it would be ok if I feature it on my blog (www.nestdesignstudioblog.blogspot.com)?

  3. Love the nursery! How did you do the valances? I want to do something similar for my nursery but don't have access to a saw to cut and make a mounting board. I'm looking for other ideas or ways to mount a valance.

    Thanks!

Home Depot will do basic cuts like you would need for this project for you. My cornice box uses 1x10 planks the front's length is determined by your window and I made the side pieces were 4". Just upholster the pieces separately using batting, fabric, and a staple gun then attach the pieces using small L brackets.

  6. So cute! I have been toying with an idea for a DIY mobile as well. I'm having a little boy, due 11.21.11 and our theme is trees and sparrows. I would love to have more information on how you made your mobile, it is so cute!

  8. Such a beutiful nursery! i bought the same drawer knobs for our dresser but they are way too long. Did you have to cut yours down? How did you do it?

  9. Tamara-
I just used a hack saw to cut off about an inch and a half of the screw and then filed the edge to make it a little smoother so it wouldn't catch on the clothes in the drawer. Worked like a charm!

The paint color is Benjamin Moore's Barren Plain that we had color matched to Olympic's No VOC line.

  13. Hi! I came across your blog from Chic & Cheap Nursery, and I love the fabrics you found! I was wondering what weight fabric you ordered from Spoonflower for each of the items (crib skirt/bumper, changing pad cover, windows, etc.). Did you just get quilting weight for everything, or did you get something heavier? I'm in the middle of working on a nursery for our own girl that we're expecting in October. Thanks for your help, and beautiful job on your nursery!

I just ordered the regular quilting weight for everything and it worked just fine!

  19. Can you provide details on the artwork? I know the You Are My Sunshine & LOVE prints are from Etsy...where is that bird print from? It's so pretty! Thanks!

  20. I second the rug question! Just what I've been looking for.

  21. Hi Everyone! Sorry I haven't been answering questions! The rug is Company C Spectrum. It comes in a lot of colors, although this particular one has been discontinued. The LOVE print is from Made By Girl, You Are My Sunshine print: Happy Signs on Etsy. The bird print is from Etsy too, but looks like the shop is gone now :(
