Mama Made Clothes

Ellie has had the opportunity to try out some of the clothes I made for her back when she was born. I think I love her homemade clothes with their unserged seams and crooked stitching more than any of her purchased outfits. I feel like they just look like love on her. Plus, she looks adorable in them.

The first one she got to wear was that ruffled romper.

She only wore it once for her newborn pictures since I was afraid she would be cold in it. I haven't tried it on her since, but I'm sure she has already outgrown it.

I think I will make her another that will fit her for next summer when I'm not so concerned about her body temperature.

She has worn her kimono pjs several times.

I don't really know why I still call them pjs though, because she doesn't sleep in them. I put them on her for laying around the house.

Her fluffy cloth diaper butt is starting to get snug in them, but for now, they still fit her ok. I want to make her a new pair in a bigger size too and several pairs of the pants. They are super easy so I could whip out a pair during naptime.

And for church on Sunday, she got to wear her empire waist dress.

I decided last minute she needed a matching hair (of lack thereof) accessory, so I whipped out this little fabric flower headband about 10 minutes before we left.

She rocked it.

I just love her wearing her mama-made clothes. They make me proud and every time I look at her in them, it reminds me of all the anticipation I had leading up to her birth that I channeled into my sewing machine.

Since she's been born, I've been on a sewing hiatus since keeping up with her and getting some sleep has been keeping me very busy and tired. Luckily though, it appears that her sleeping habits are greatly improving (knock on wood), so I will hopefully be able to start making her some more clothes. I made her an outfit for the pumpkin patch we are visiting next weekend, but you'll just have to wait to see that.

  1. Adorable outfits, and I've gotta say I admire your sewing skills -- I've never sewn on so much as a button. Looking forward to seeing the pumpkin patch outfit. :)

  2. Hi there! I happened upon your blog (maybe through the bump?) and hope you don't mind that I've been following. I love your homemade clothes. Too cute.

I also love your pictures and was wondering what lens you use on your camera? I would love to get better shots of my little one. Thanks for any tips you may have.

  3. Hi Jackie!
I don't mind you following at all! The more the merrier!

I typically use a 50mm/1.8 lens for portraits. Its really inexpensive (ie: under $100) and get great sharp pictures. I also use my Sigma 28-70mm/2.8 quite a bit too. I have a teeny house and the 28 end is great for tight spaces. Her weekly pictures are all done on the Sigma.

  4. Her weekly pics are too cute. I don't have the ability to remember every week. I'm trying my best to keep my monthly pics going.

I did decide on the 50mm f/1.8. I'm very excited to purchase it and can't wait to see how it affects my photos.

Thanks for the advice and I'll be following along :)
